Application of Roadbed Construction in the National Highway Reconstruction Project

Project Background
A national highway expansion project in Shanxi Province has a total length of 42 kilometers. It is designed with four lanes in both directions and needs to be widened to 24 meters on the basis of the existing road. At the same time, it needs to address soft soil sections, high embankment roadbeds, and sections crossing valleys. The requirements for the excavation power, stability, and continuous operation capability of the equipment are extremely high.

Efficient earthwork operations: The HY235-8 is equipped with a Cummins engine and an optimized hydraulic system, featuring strong digging power. Each unit can complete over 1,200 cubic meters of earthwork excavation and filling per day, rapidly shaping the roadbed.
Adaptability to complex conditions: For soft ground sections, the excavator, in conjunction with the replacement filling process, precisely completes the excavation of weak soil layers and the backfilling with crushed stones; in high-fill areas, with a stable chassis structure, it can achieve integrated operations of layer-by-layer filling and slope restoration.
Energy saving and reliability: The full-power intelligent electronic control system effectively reduces fuel consumption. Under long-term and high-intensity operations, the equipment’s attendance rate remains above 95%, and no major faults have occurred, ensuring the progress requirements of “construction while traffic is open”.

Project Results

The construction period of the roadbed stage was shortened by 15% compared to the planned schedule. The compaction rate of the soft foundation sections reached 100%.
The fuel consumption of the equipment was reduced by approximately 8% compared to similar-tonnage competitors, significantly controlling the construction costs.
